Young Adult Therapy

Therapy for College Students

College can be exciting and still feel hard. You may be keeping up with assignments while missing home, questioning a relationship, or feeling alone in a crowded room. I offer space to talk without needing to make college sound better than it feels.

What It Feels Like

When College Feels Heavy

  1. Stress may show up as late nights, trouble starting assignments, irritability, or checking grades over and over. Rest can feel undeserved when there is always something else due. Even a free afternoon can become a list of things you should finish.

  2. Homesickness is not limited to the first semester. A familiar meal, a hard weekend, or seeing friends together back home can bring it up again. Missing home does not mean you chose the wrong school.

Underneath

What the Stress May Carry

Academic pressure can become tangled with identity. A disappointing grade may feel less like information about one class and more like a verdict on whether you belong. We can ask where that conclusion started.

I also make room for relationship concerns, family expectations, money worries, and changing friendships. You do not have to separate school stress from the rest of your life. A roommate argument can affect concentration as much as an exam.

Our Work

Understanding Your Standards

I draw on IFS, narrative, and psychodynamic therapy. We might notice the part of you that pushes for perfect grades and the part that feels worn out. Each may be responding to something important.

Together, we can question stories such as 'everyone else is handling this' and explore where those standards began. Practical conversations about boundaries, routines, and asking for help can sit alongside that work.

In Session

Sessions Around Your Classes

Individual sessions are 45 minutes. Online therapy can reduce travel time and fit around classes, depending on available appointments. You will need a place where you can talk with privacy. We can discuss options if roommates share your room.

I offer online therapy for clients located in California, Arizona, or Missouri and in person in Manhattan Beach. If you travel home or study elsewhere, we can discuss location requirements before scheduling. Your physical location matters at each appointment.

First Steps

Starting Without Another Assignment

You do not need to prepare a polished explanation or know which issue comes first. We can begin with the moment that has been hardest lately. A rough week is enough to talk about.

A free consultation offers time to ask about scheduling and fit. Visit the Rates page for private pay details. Superbills are available if you want to explore reimbursement through your insurance plan.

Questions

Before We Begin

Can I talk about relationships?
Yes. Dating, roommate tension, friendship changes, and family relationships can all be part of our conversations.
Do you offer online sessions?
Yes, for clients located in California, Arizona, or Missouri at the time of their appointment.
What if my schedule changes?
Bring that up when we discuss appointments. We can review current availability rather than assume one time will always work.
