Approach

Understanding the patterns that shape us.

Four ways of working, used together and shaped around you. Here is what each one means in practice.

Who it is for

If you keep ending up in the same place

This way of working suits adults and couples who sense a pattern repeating and want to understand it, not just manage it for another week. It asks for some patience. In return, the work tends to go below the surface.

What we work with

The four methods I draw on

01

Internal Family Systems

Getting curious about your parts

Most of us have a part that protects, a part that avoids, and a part that criticizes. In IFS we stop arguing with them. We ask what each one is worried about, and often they soften once they feel understood.

02

Emotionally Focused Therapy

The feelings under the argument

With couples, the fight about dishes is rarely about dishes. EFT helps partners notice the cycle they fall into, like one pursuing and one pulling away, and name the hurt or fear running underneath it.

03

Psychodynamic work

Where the old rules came from

The family you grew up in taught you how love, anger, and need are supposed to work. We look at how those early lessons show up now, in how you relate to a partner, a boss, or yourself.

04

Narrative therapy

Room for a different story

We all carry a story about who we are, such as the responsible one or the difficult one. Narrative work separates you from that label and leaves space to tell your story another way.

How I work

Direct, honest, genuine, and kind

I won't sit quietly nodding for an hour. If I see something, I'll say it, with care and with room for you to disagree.

Therapy here is a partnership. You know your life; I know how patterns tend to work. Together we decide which method fits the moment, and that changes from person to person and couple to couple.

What can shift

Clients often describe catching a reaction a beat earlier, or feeling less at war with themselves. Change looks different for everyone, and it can take time.

What sessions look like

Weekly video sessions. Some weeks we talk through what happened; other weeks we slow down and stay with one feeling or one part.

Questions

About the approach

Do I need to choose a method?
No. We figure out together what helps, and it often mixes more than one.
Is IFS only for individuals?
It works well one on one, and its ideas can also help partners understand each other's reactions.
Will we talk about my childhood?
Only as much as it feels useful. Some clients go there right away; others never need to.
