Therapy Near Torrance
For adults and couples in Torrance sorting through family relationships, cultural expectations, and belonging. I offer in-person sessions in Manhattan Beach and online therapy across California, Arizona, and Missouri.

What You Bring
You can love your family and question a pattern.
In a multigenerational household, boundaries may affect more than one relationship at a time. A decision about work, partnership, or parenting can carry expectations from several generations. Living between cultures can also leave you translating yourself, not only your words. I grew up in Germany and moved to the US at 16. I won't assume your experience matches mine.
In Person or Online
Privacy can matter as much as proximity
My private office is in Manhattan Beach rather than Torrance, and I share the exact location after consultation. Online sessions use secure video when you are in California, Arizona, or Missouri. If you live with extended family, we should discuss whether you have somewhere to speak without being overheard. An office visit may offer that separation. You can also move between formats as privacy and scheduling needs change.
How I Work
We look at the meaning of the rule.
Psychodynamic therapy helps us understand how childhood relationships shape what feels possible now. Internal Family Systems gives different parts of you room to speak, including the part that wants independence and the part that fears disappointing family. Narrative work explores inherited ideas about loyalty or success. With couples, Emotionally Focused Therapy helps us hear each partner's need for belonging without reducing cultural differences to who is right.
Individual and Couples Therapy
Family patterns, individually or together

Individual Therapy
During 45-minute individual sessions, we can discuss guilt, changing boundaries, and the pressure of representing a family well. I offer sessions in English or German, depending on your preference.

Couples Therapy
In 60-minute couples sessions, partners can bring different family traditions, expectations around parenting, or disagreements about relatives. We make room for both histories while looking at the relationship you are building.
