When You Feel Numb
You get through work, answer messages, and make dinner. Nothing seems especially wrong, but little feels close or meaningful. I take that flatness seriously, even when you cannot name a feeling beyond 'I don't know.'

What It Feels Like
Going Through the Motions
Numbness may feel like watching your day rather than being in it. You laugh at the expected moment or finish a task, yet the experience barely registers. Time passes without much pleasure, sadness, or anticipation.
You might fill quiet moments with scrolling, extra work, or another episode. That does not automatically mean you are avoiding something. I would want to understand what happens when distractions stop and you have less to do.
Underneath
Considering More Than One Explanation
For some people, feeling less has helped them get through stress or situations where feelings had nowhere to go. We can consider that protective role without assuming every experience of numbness has the same cause.
I also ask about sleep, recent changes, medications, and how long the flatness has lasted. Numbness can overlap with depression or physical health concerns. Sometimes a medical evaluation belongs alongside conversations about your emotional life.
Our Work
Curiosity Without Forcing a Feeling
Using IFS, or Internal Family Systems, I may invite curiosity about the part that keeps feelings at a distance. We can ask what it worries would happen if sadness, anger, or longing became more noticeable.
Narrative work examines conclusions like 'I am just an empty person.' Psychodynamic work looks for connections between current distance and earlier relationships. I keep those ideas tied to your experiences rather than fitting you into an explanation.
In Session
Small Moments Count
My individual sessions are 45 minutes. I see clients online while they are located in California, Arizona, or Missouri, and in person in Manhattan Beach. You can come in feeling flat and speak plainly about that.
I will not ask you to produce tears or make a session feel intense. We might notice a small preference, a moment of irritation, or a bodily sensation. Sometimes we begin with what you cannot feel.
First Steps
An Ordinary Place to Begin
Consider noticing one ordinary experience without testing yourself for a reaction. The temperature of your coffee or the sound outside a window can be enough. If nothing stands out, that is useful information to bring.
You can request a free consultation and describe the flatness in your own words. I can explain how I work, answer practical questions, and hear what you hope to have more room for in your days.
